The following list describes the Firm's major areas of practice in the State of Iowa and Nebraska.
Litigation and Appeals -- We represent and advise clients who are or might become involved in a lawsuit or appeal as a result of a dispute, including prevention and settlement, in such areas as personal injury, contract disputes, family law, and commercial matters.
In addition to the recognized skills of our attorneys at trial, we possess equal proficiency in state and federal appellate court proceedings. We handle appeals with the same teamwork applied to our trial practice. Because every matter handled at the trial level may be appealed, our team provides litigation support and legal analysis on procedural and substantive issues that may arise during the course of representation. In the increasingly volatile world of litigation, our attorneys closely follow current developments in the law and evaluate the effects of those changes for our clients.
Personal Injury -- Our firm represents individuals involved in controversies alleging a wrong or damage to another's person, rights, reputation, or property resulting from events or activities such as automobile accidents, defective products, infliction of emotional distress, intentional misconduct, and negligence. We handle all kinds of work injuries including but not limited to neck, back and shoulder injuries, as well as exposures to various toxic substances. We also assist in securing appropriate medical care.
Victims of personal injury are entitled to financial compensation for past and present pain and suffering, loss of enjoyment of life, disability, medical and property expenses, incidental costs caused by the accident, and may be entitled to additional damages to cover future expenses or other issues.
Social Security Disability -- If you or a loved one is disabled as the result of injury or illness, you may be eligible for Social Security income payments. The Social Security system is complicated, and a qualified attorney can help guide you through the system to get the benefits you need.
Civil Rights -- Our firm practices in the area of Civil Rights which involve fundamental issues of human rights and freedoms. The lawyers in this area represent clients who believe that they have been the victims of police misconduct, sexual harassment, and discrimination-age, disability and illness, national origin, sex, race, and religion-in employment, public accommodation, education, housing, or voting under federal or state law.
Employment & Labor Law -- Employment law covers a complex network of laws that controls how employers must treat employees, former employees, and applicants for employment. We assist clients in developing employment policies, labor agreements, and complex severance agreements. We represent employers and employees in wage claims, disability, and race, sex, and age discrimination, including class actions.
The History of Hamilton Law Firm
A.D. Baillie
A.D. Baillie was a highly respected attorney and district court judge in the late 1800's, well known throughout Iowa, Minnesota and Nebraska. After a successful career as county attorney, Mr. Baillie formed the original law firm in 1876 with Robert Sisson, an old college buddy, real estate dealer and financier. The partnership with Mr. Sisson lasted 3 years and the law firm was established and continued to grow.
Following the Civil War, the late 1800's was a time of great disillusionment. Jesse and Frank James (pictured on the right), along with cousin Cole Younger, put together the most notorious, celebrated criminal gang of the American West. The James-Younger Gang began a massive crime spree robbing banks, stage coaches and trains, frustrating law enforcement officials in the Midwest from 1866 to 1875. It is reputed that A.D. Baillie presided over a trial of several members of the James-Younger Gang after a robbery at Albert City Bank and the gang's subsequent fiasco attempting to rob the Bank at Northfield, Minnesota.
A.D. Baillie is the great grandfather of Willis, Steven, Mary and Jim Hamilton Jr. - the attorneys and key personnel of Hamilton Law Firm, P.C. Mr. Baillie is also the father-in-law of Willis C. Edson.

He was called Willie "Billy" Edson and was one of the first All Americans from Iowa. He is in the All Time Lineups at both Iowa State and University of Iowa, and was the 8th person inducted into the Iowa Sports Hall of Fame (click here) in 1959.
